I have never used it and I hope I never need to. Last year, when I didn’t have it, I truly suffered when my vehicle (without a spare tire, only with a -useless- kit) broke down on a remote beach where I had gone fishing. I was stranded at noon, the car stayed there all night, and the next day almost at noon I loaded it onto Roadside Assistance to take it to a garage, since one bolt wouldn’t come off so I could take just the tire to the garage. At least the car is a company car and I didn’t have to pay for the roadside, but when I heard how much the mechanic would charge me to come and fix it on the spot I was "shocked" (over €50). We’re talking about suffering not only for me, but also for my father who came to help me... Just have it with you, it doesn’t take up space (many garages use exactly the same one)...
