MONOCRYL suture is indicated for holding soft tissues in contact or for the approximation of soft tissues. It is not indicated for ophthalmological and microsurgical procedures. The implantation of the synthetic absorbable surgical suture MONOCRYL initially causes minimal local inflammation of the tissue, characteristic of a foreign body reaction, which is followed by corresponding local fibrous connective tissue growth.
There is a gradual loss of the suture's strength and mass due to absorption through the hydrolysis process, during which the suture metabolizes into adipic acid that is eventually fully absorbed and metabolized by the tissues. During the absorption of the MONOCRYL suture, initially there is a loss of strength without significant loss of mass. The suture retains 50-60% of its initial strength after one week and up to 20-30% by the end of the second week. The absorption of the suture is complete within 90 to 119 days. The total initial strength of the suture is lost within 28 days.
Size: 3/0 with a 31mm P 1/2 circle needle, suture length 70 cm.
Surgical sutures, known as stitches, are small loops made with fine, durable thread of various types. Their role is to hold the surgical incision so that it forms a clear line and does not leave gaps or open. They can be made with many various materials, either natural or synthetic, which are selected to minimize the chances of side effects. Some of these are absorbable and will disappear on their own after a few weeks. In the days following a surgical operation or procedure, the incision will have a pink appearance and may secrete clear fluid or a small amount of blood.
