This breakout board is the simplest way to create a project with a single capacitive touch "toggle" sensor. No microcontroller is required - just power it with 1.8 to 5.5VDC and touch the surface to activate the sensor.
This sensor has a toggle output type: touch-on and touch-off. This means that when a capacitive load is detected (e.g., a person touches the sensor's surface), the red LED will toggle its state, while the output will become high or low, respectively. It is suitable for projects where you want to activate something with the first touch and deactivate it when you touch again, like a switch.
You can also solder a wire to the middle surface and create your own capacitive pad if the built-in one is not suitable for your project. To save power, the LED can be disconnected from the output (cut the connection between the jumper appropriately marked). The design of this breakout we offer allows for unlimited timeout.
The processor supports the timeout feature of the sensor, so for example, if something is activated, it will automatically turn off after a while. If you wish to use this feature, cut the TIMER jumper and connect a resistor/capacitor to the TIME output. Refer to the datasheet for how to calculate the TIME pin to match your desired timeout.
It comes with a fully assembled board and a small 0.1" header so you can solder it and connect it to a breadboard. For additional contacts, we recommend using copper foil, and then solder a wire connecting the surface from the foil to the breakout.
