Application of the suction bag

The suction bag is suitable for tracheostomy patients, chronically bedridden patients, and patients in the postoperative period. It is used to suction secretions from the nose, mouth, or lungs, as well as in cases of minor surgical procedures.

Suction in general

The suction of tracheobronchial secretions is an essential procedure for the removal of sputum or food from the area of the trachea and throat. The special catheter can enter either through the mouth, nasal cavity, or, in the case of tracheostomy, through the entrance of the tracheostomy.

Indications for bronchial secretion suction

  • Wheezing (rattling) in the chest or throat area.
  • Aspiration due to vomiting in sleep, especially in the elderly.
  • Low saturation (low oxygen) with a need to take blood gases.
  • Respiratory infection with increased secretions.
  • Inability of the patient to expel secretions.

The purpose of suctioning is the removal of secretions and any food residues. It is often more effective after using a nebulizer mask.
