Normally, it should be called the "Classic Sketch set" because it contains all the colors that the great and non-Renaissance artists used for their sketches. Although Da Vinci usually used Red Chalk, artists like Paul Rubens and Michelangelo highlighted their sketches using Charcoal, red and white chalk (mainly Red Chalk along with charcoal). This set is the medium one but it is complete and that's what I would recommend! It's not the easiest for beginners because it requires experience, especially in how to sharpen a charcoal pencil... but on the other hand, there is no better way to start a classic sketch (and by that, we mean the materials used in the past, not what you will sketch! That is free, you can draw anything!) It is the perfect gift for anyone who loves sketching!

PS The best Red Chalk, or Sanguine, is produced by Koh-i-noor! (both in pencil and in 5.6mm lead. (In this form, it is called Russet Sepia 5.6mm.)
