Description

Eugenios Trivizas lives in the era that gave birth to him. He possesses it, feels it, and expresses it. In his writings, whatever they may be - verse or prose, fairy tales for young children or theater - he moves like a person who has experienced all the contradictions, eccentricities, and extremes of his time. To what he encounters, he adds his own imagination, poetry, and inventiveness.
In his play, "The Dream of the Shadow Player," he gathers the messages of this era that circulate and charge the air we all breathe. He captures the slogans of freedom, independence, and redemption, and we find them transformed into poetic, fantastical form in his unwavering Shadow Player.
What does this nailed likeness of a human seek? To shake off, to detach, to cut the bonds, to become independent!
They have set him up as a scarecrow for the free birds, but that is not his destination; he longs for something else. To move, to fly, to exist, to act! And the birds sympathize with his desire, the message emitted by his desperate effort. They feel the hidden hope of the unwavering creature. They all join in his struggle, fluttering sympathetically around him and giving him instructions.
And the dream-ridden Shadow Player, intoxicated by words, ideas, advice, and orders, completely forgets his purpose, which is to scare the birds. Not only does he not protect the field, but he also gives them permission to feast on the vegetables he guards.
And of course, eventually the hour of revelation arrives (just like in human affairs). The owner unveils the truth.
Here, Eugenios Trivizas' imagination begins to spiral. With the trial, exaggeration, satire, frenzy, and unexpected events begin. [...] (from the preface of the 1st edition)
