In the myth of the Labdacids, Oedipus ponders, desires, and is capable in the initially spontaneous and consequently unexamined manner that generally distinguishes the multitude of humans. Just as in his days, the Athenian State deliberates, conspires, and operates unexamined and therefore irresponsibly.
To what this leads is now "known" to us, in the superficial way many other things are already "known" to us, rather completely unconsciously regarding what and how they truly mean.
It is precisely this unconscious "knowledge" of the modern inhabitant of history that transgresses into the modern understanding of science as cogito ergo sum, under the certainty of which we are led from the dominant technical power to the figurative essential weakness about which Nietzsche speaks with the appropriate reverence for the matters at hand: "the will to power and the eternal recurrence" in the wake of the wisdom of the Athenian tragedian.
What the "first tragic" figure of Western history attempts to convey according to his own cognitive ethos is that the "can" is permeated by the quality of "entropy"; that is, in other words, that power devolves into weakness according to a completely unconscious and uncontrolled order by the bearer and possessor of it, the human.
Just as "illness" and "health" seem to constantly fall into one another at the limits of the same organism, the same cyclical transformation seems to characterize what is understood as "power" and "weakness" at the much broader cosmic-temporal dimensions of civilizations.
The transition from one state to its opposite is not only not considered, according to his opinion, something exceptional, but rather constitutes the rule of the conduct of all beings.
