This kit includes:
- SX1272 LoRa module for Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and Intel Galileo - 868 MHz [XBee Socket]
- Multiprotocol Radio Shield for Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and Intel Galileo
The main advantage of the SX1272 LoRa module is the increased range and cost savings compared to other similar models like the XBee 868 or XBee 900.
The Multiprotocol Radio Shield can be used to connect two models in order to combine the existing Cooking-Hacks modules and facilitate connections between platforms. The SX1272 LoRa module uses the SPI interface, which allows faster communication and frees the UART for other uses such as debugging or connecting communication modules.
Note: On Arduino, this module must be used with the Multiprotocol Radio Shield.
Note: As stated in the product name, this item is compatible with Arduino. It is NOT compatible with Waspmote.
LoRa VS LoRaWAN
Libelium currently offers two options for this radio communication technology: LoRa and LoRaWAN.
- LoRa only includes the link protocol and is ideal for P2P communications between nodes. LoRa modules are a bit cheaper than LoRaWAN. It operates in the 868 and 900MHz bands.
- LoRaWAN also includes the network layer, allowing the transmission of information to any Base Station already connected to a Cloud platform. LoRaWAN modules can operate in the 868/900/433MHz bands.
