Having purchased the Nikon D750 with the 24-120 kit lens, the next lens I wanted was a prime fixed lens for portraits. I was torn between the 50mm 1.8 and the 85mm 1.8. I am as happy as can be that I took the risk and got the 85mm, which has been permanently attached to my camera for the past 6 months. The brightness, wide aperture, sharpness, color reproduction, and bokeh are magical! It cannot be compared to either the 35mm or the 50mm Nikon lenses that I have tried on both crop and full frame bodies. If I were to get another lens, it would be the Sigma 105mm macro. I should note that those who have never used a fixed lens should not bother if they prefer the convenience or laziness of zoom. However, they should never expect the magical portraits, landscapes, or street shots that the 85mm delivers.

It is what we call "you get what you pay for". I recently bought this lens and it is excellent, with very good color reproduction. It is an ideal lens for portraits, and I highly recommend it. The Bokeh it produces is incomparable, it is dreamy and creates amazing blur.

Excellent lens for its specifications. The construction is good. In all other aspects, sharpness, color rendering, bokeh are awesome. I have it mounted on both DSLR and Mirrorless bodies. It is worth buying both as new and used.

  • It is an ideal lens for portraits. Very good for night shots as well. Vivid colors (a fairly sharp lens) and lightweight. It easily justifies its price. I highly recommend it.

Personally, I would choose the Samyang even though it lacks autofocus. It is excellent

Acidity throughout the frame and edges, but slow focus, therefore it lost the fifth star.
