This lightweight standard lens is an excellent companion for travel, because you never know when a beautiful, sunny day will turn cloudy and rainy. With the fast f/1.8 aperture, the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G will capture even low-light situations with stunning brilliance.
The small and lightweight Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 G lens works with all Nikon cameras, both digital and film, with automatic or manual focus, and its results impress every time.
As with any 50mm prime lens, the angle of view it provides with an FX body is 47° and with all DX bodies 31°. These lenses, when used for portraits, are distinguished by their sharpness and control over depth of field, and in low light shots, they stand out for the amount of light they can "capture".
The Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 G is compatible with all bodies and provides autofocus functionality even on cameras that do not have a built-in focus mechanism, such as the D3xxx series (D3000, D3100, D3200) and the D5xxx series (D5000, D5100, D5200), and the F3.

Beautiful Background Blur
Achieve a more natural depth of field
Whether you're photographing portraits, food, or nature - indoors or outdoors - the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G delivers beautiful, natural background blur (Bokeh) at wider aperture settings. And its 50 mm focal length is ideal for creating a natural perspective in your photos.
Capture every detail
Capture sharp portraits every time
Nikon's Super Integrated Coating (SIC) enhances light transmission performance and offers superior color consistency and reduced flare, while the Aspherical Lens Element (AS) of the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G virtually eliminates coma and other types of aberrations, even when shooting at the widest available aperture. Combine it with Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for fast, accurate, and quiet autofocus, and you can be confident that all your portraits will be sharp.
Technologies
- Silent Wave Motor (SWM)
AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM). This technology converts "traveling waves" into rotational energy to focus the optics. This allows for high-speed autofocus that is extremely accurate and super quiet.
- M/A
Some NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode that allows switching from autofocus to manual focus with virtually no time lag, simply by turning the focusing ring on the lens. This makes it possible to seamlessly switch to fine manual focus while looking through the viewfinder.
- Aspherical Lens (AS)
A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. It is used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size. Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful for correcting distortion in wide-angle lenses and contribute to a lighter, more compact design by reducing the number of standard (spherical) elements required. Aspherical lens elements correct these distortions by continuously changing the refractive index from the center of the lens.
- Super Integrated Coating
Nikon's Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for the multi-layer coating of optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.
