The Domaine Porto Carras is the oldest vineyard in Greece, with the first plantings dating back to the late 1960s. It is the largest organic vineyard in Greece and one of the largest in Europe, with a total area of 4,750 acres. The design of the vineyard was undertaken by professors from the Faculty of Agriculture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Vine and Wine Institute of Athens.
Today, the vineyard of the PDO "Plagies Melitona" is a model of organic viticulture, as it aligns with modern international consumer and environmental trends. The winery, built in 1970, guarantees the immediate processing and delivery of grapes, ensuring consistently high quality. The production process is based on the most modern practices.
