Description

Behind the creation of ZOINOS WINERY is the restless and progressive spirit of the local winegrowers, who in 1954 founded the first small winery in Zitsa. These efforts were supported by the Agricultural Cooperative Association of Ioannina, and in 1974 the first modern winery of Northwestern Greece was established, while since 1972 the wines of the Zitsa viticultural zone from the white Debina variety have been legally recognized as PDO Zitsa wines.

Viticulture in Epirus, particularly in Zitsa, has a long history, and its wines have been famous for a long time, as the area cultivates three endemic and rare varieties: the white Debina and the red Vlachiko and Bekari. The Zitsa viticultural zone now covers an area of 2,100 stremmas, on a plateau with relatively gentle slopes, wild flora, and clusters of natural herbs and aromatic plants. The elevation of the zone is 550-730m above sea level.

The soils are limestone and sloping, facing the Ionian side, receiving the influence of maritime winds, thus having a mild winter and cool summer. The particular climatic characteristics, together with the native varieties, produce wines of many different types and spirits of high quality and distinct character.

Debina BIO. PDO Zitsa.

The vinification is carried out in stainless steel and cement tanks. We have continuous contact of the must with the skins throughout the alcoholic fermentation. The fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts. The wine remains for several months with its lees, gaining body and enriching with varietal aromas.
