Description

Behind the creation of ZOINOS WINERY lies the restless and progressive spirit of the local vine growers, who in 1954 founded the first small winery in Zitsa. These efforts were reinforced by the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Ioannina, which in 1974 established the first modern winery in Northwestern Greece, while since 1972 the wines of the Zitsa viticultural zone from the white Debina variety have been legally recognized as PDO Zitsa wines.

Viticulture in Epirus, and particularly in Zitsa, has a long history and its wines have been renowned for a long time. In the region, three endemic and rare varieties are cultivated: the white Debina and the red Vlachiko and Bekari.

The Zitsa viticultural zone covers an area of 2,100 acres, located on a plateau with relatively gentle slopes, wild flora, and clusters of natural herbs and aromatic plants. The zone's elevation ranges from 550-730 meters above sea level. The soils are calcareous and sloping, facing the Ionian side and receiving the influence of marine winds, with a mild winter and cool summer.

The distinctive climatic characteristics, along with the native varieties, produce wines of many different types, as well as high-quality spirits with a unique character.

Debina BIO. PDO Zitsa. After pre-fermentation cold maceration, vinification takes place with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel cooled tanks. The wine remains on its lees for several months, gaining in structure and body.
