Review this product
  • Was it easy to read?
  • I would read a book by the same author
  • I would recommend it for reading
  • I liked the writing style
  • Was it interesting enough?
  • Paper quality
  • Unfortunately, this book failed to excite me as much as other works by Lena Manta. Although the subject and characters had some interesting elements, the story seemed quite boring and repetitive to me. Especially the ending, which often in these books offers a twist or something shocking, here seemed predictable and without surprises.
Manta's writing remains good, but the intensity we are used to finding in her books was not present in this work, resulting in it not keeping me in suspense and leaving me rather disappointed. Although it is not her best, perhaps those who love milder and more family-oriented stories will appreciate it more.

  • Definitely not one of Manta's best. For me, it was quite boring and the ending of the book didn't surprise me! Having read The Five Keys and then this, I was disappointed! But these are just tastes!

  • Very good book. Its story is superb. It keeps you hooked and you want to read it in one day. It describes the events in such a way that you can't find a stopping point.

  • The best novel by Lena Manta. I have read it twice and I want to read it again, its stories are unforgettable and of course I didn't leave it until I finished it.... My mind was constantly there... It was taking me on a journey...

Description & Specifications

Life does not end. It always flows like a river. If you do not hold the oars tightly, your boat will become a twig, drifting aimlessly in its murky waters.

"Life is like the river that flows before us at this moment. It easily sweeps you away and pulls you wherever it goes. Just as a river does not turn back, if it sweeps you away, you will not be able to return... Always pay attention to the river... Don't let it carry you away..."

Melissanthi, Julia, Aspasia, Polyxeni, and Magdalene grow up with their mother in a village by Olympus, next to a river. What all five desire is to know life away from their parental home. And they will succeed! Fate will send them to the four corners of the horizon, making the dream come true. Only sometimes, dreams turn into nightmares that haunt and chase...

Five women, five breathtaking lives, full of love and twists, while the house next to the river patiently awaits what it knows will happen.

Gerasimos met Theodora one summer in Pieria, when she was only twelve years old and he was already twenty-seven. Theodora worked like all the girls her age. They were picking cotton. Her family was poor and needed every extra day's wage that came into their little hut with seven mouths to feed.

Gerasimos came from a good family and when he was born, no one could imagine that he would be their only child, since his mother died in childbirth and his father never remarried. Fortunately for the baby, an aunt was found to raise him, because his father, a harsh and strict man by nature, became even worse after his wife's death.

The boy grew rapidly and became the most handsome young man in the area and the tallest. Many girls' hearts beat for him, but all he did was break them and leave. At twenty-five, his reputation with women was such that mothers gathered their daughters when he passed by. Everyone knew about his adventures and, as if that were not enough, there was also the story about the girl from the neighboring village who had fallen off a cliff, and it was whispered that she did it for his sake.
