Port is a Portuguese fortified wine with an alcohol content of 15-22% abv, where most range between 20-22%. It is made by adding alcohol before fermentation is complete, interrupting it, which means it contains unfermented sugars.
It is produced from grapes of local varieties grown and vinified in the demarcated region along the Douro River. The vineyards are planted on terraces on the steep slopes of shale rock hills.
It is named after the port city of Porto, the second largest city in Portugal, located at the mouth of the Douro River and served as the point of product distribution in domestic and primarily in international markets.
The grape varieties used are about 100, with the main ones being Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Baroca, and Tinta Cao.
Bin No 27 is one of the Ports belonging to the Premium Ruby category, meaning it is a blend of vintages aged in large tanks for three to six years, a relatively short period in the Port's time scale.
