The Hunt for the Ring by Ares Games is a hidden-movement strategy board game for 2–5 players, based on Frodo and his companions’ journey from the Shire to Rivendell. One player takes on the role of Frodo, while the others—up to four players—control the Nazgûl pursuing the hobbits. During the journey, Frodo must resist the Ring’s corruption.
The game unfolds over two chapters, each with a different board. In the first, Frodo’s player tries to reach Bree from the Shire within sixteen turns; otherwise, they gain corruption points. If successful, they can record the exit point and other details to continue the second chapter later, or proceed immediately with Rivendell as their destination. In the second chapter, the hobbits’ movement is determined by cards drawn from the Journey deck.
