Description

Description

The WiFi Extender from D-Link broadcasts a signal on one frequency, 2.4Ghz, which offers lower speed compared to those that broadcast on 2 (dual) or 3 (tri-band) frequencies. The 2.4Ghz frequency is the most widespread, and as it has a long range, it is usually congested by neighboring Wi-Fi signals, further complicating device communication. For managing multiple devices, a dual-band device can handle it more effectively. The repeater can offer up to 300Mbps in total to the devices connected to it. In practice, the actual speed that such a repeater of this generation (Wi-Fi 4) can offer to a single device is closer to 50Mbps. Indicatively, a high-resolution 4K movie requires about 25Mbps. The speed that each connected device will have depends on the distance, obstacles, how many other devices are connected, how many other networks exist in the same space, etc. It is of Wi-Fi 4 generation, an older generation recommended for use with few devices and for applications that do not require high speeds. The connection via ethernet cable offers a speed of 100Mbps, which is sufficient to cover all needs, e.g., a high-definition 4K movie requires about 25Mbps.

  • I have had it for a week. It troubled me at first until it connected to the router - in direct line of sight at 4 meters - and connected with an Ethernet cable to the desktop. I have a 300 Mbps download/upload speed, and with the cable directly connected to the router, I was getting 310+ Mbps download; with the extender, it dropped to 81-82, which is about 1/4. However, once it connected and worked, it did not have any interruptions.

  • It does the job just fine, it just doesn't have good range.

The setup through the wizard is easy, many people write negative comments that it doesn't connect, loses synchronization, etc.

The solution is simple, change the communication channel on the router to 2.4Ghz and it will connect!! I changed it from auto to 13 and it works!!

It didn't work, whether we used good cables or placed it as close as possible to the router, it didn't make any difference. Many times it would desynchronize and require resynchronization or simply crash the router.
