- For writing, the grades F, HB, B, 2B, 3B are recommended. The higher the B value, the softer the pencil tip and the darker the black it produces. The higher the H value, the harder the tip and the lighter the black.
- Coal: They are mainly used in painting, as they achieve a deeper black. They smudge more than graphite pencils. They require a special eraser for erasing.
- Graphite: Ideal for all uses, especially for writing and drawing.
