Argyris P. P. Petronotis

Argyris Petronotis was born in 1924 in Tripoli. He participated in the National Resistance as a guerrilla fighter with ELAS. As a consequence, he was exiled to the notorious Makronisos island and tortured. He studied and obtained a degree in Architecture and Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He attended the School of Philosophy at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA) and was awarded a degree from the Department of History and Archaeology. He pursued further studies in Germany, where he graduated with honors as a Doctor of Engineering (Dr. Ingenieur) from the Technical University of Munich. He worked as a professional architect and as a co-researcher in archaeological excavations. He contributed to the restoration preparation of the Temple of Apollo Epicurius at Bassae in Arcadia. He taught Architectural History at the Polytechnic School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (also teaching Architectural Morphology at the School of Fine Arts there without remuneration) as an Associate Professor. He was not deemed worthy of promotion to the rank of Professor. He participated in local, national, and international conferences and was a member of scientific societies and institutes. He published works related to his field of expertise. He studied and is constructing, with family funding, a Monument for the 603 Fallen Arcadians of 1940. He collaborates on community projects and scientific research. Even while teaching, he continues to learn and occasionally revises his views.
