Nikolaos G. Traylos

Nikolaos G. Travlos is the Dean, Professor of Finance, and holder of the "Kitty Kyriacopoulos" Chair at ALBA Graduate Business School. He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Athens and both a master's and a Ph.D. from New York University's Leonard Stern School of Business (USA). His research and teaching focus on corporate finance, financial analysis, money and capital markets, securities investments, banking, and mergers and acquisitions. He has taught undergraduate and graduate programs (MBA, MSc, and Ph.D.) at Boston College, City University of New York (Baruch College), New York University (L. Stern School of Business), ALBA, and the University of Piraeus (1990-1998). At the University of Piraeus, he served as the Chair of the Department of Banking and Financial Management (1993-1997) and Director of the Graduate Program in Banking and Financial Management (1997-1998). He was also a Distinguished Senior Research Fellow at Cardiff University (Cardiff Business School) from 1998 to 2007. His scholarly work has been published in leading international academic journals in the field, such as "The Journal of Finance," "Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis," "Journal of Accounting Research," "Financial Management," "Journal of Financial Research," "European Financial Management," "Journal of Accounting Auditing and Finance," "Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance," "Journal of Multinational Financial Management," "Pacific-Basin Finance Journal," "Multinational Finance Journal," "Managerial Journal of Corporate Governance," among others. Summaries of his work have appeared in the "Harvard Business Review" and the "Bowne Review for CFOs & Investment Bankers." His research findings have been widely cited in academic and professional books and published studies by other researchers. His study titled "Corporate Takeover Bids, Methods of Payment, and Bidding Firms' Stock Returns" (Journal of Finance, 1987) was included in 1994 in the list of the 20 most important published studies in the field of Finance. Additionally, in 2008, he was included in the list of authors worldwide who have published in the "Journal of Finance"—a unique distinction for a Greek academic—and earlier, in 2005, he was included in the list by Jean L. Heck and Philip L. Cooley ("Prolific Authors in the Finance Literature: A Half Century Contributions," "Journal of Finance Literature," 2005). He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (2004-2009) and a member of the Board of Directors of Mercedes-Benz Hellas (2008-2009). He has been a member of the Competition Commission since 2009.
