Manolis Skoulakis
Manolis Skoulakis was born in Platanos Kissamou, Chania, on March 26, 1944. He studied at the Medical School of the University of Athens. He was elected as a Member of Parliament for Chania with PASOK in the elections of 1981, 1985, 1989 (June and November), 1990, 1993, 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2007. He served as Deputy Minister of Health, Welfare, and Social Insurance from June 1988 to March 1989, and then as Alternate Minister of Health, Welfare, and Social Insurance until June 1989. He was also Deputy Minister of Health - Welfare from September 1993 to January 1996 and from September 1996 to November 1998. During his studies, he was a member of E.DI.N. and was elected Secretary of the Athens Medical School Students' Association. From 1973 to 1981, he practiced medicine in the Kissamos area. He has been a member of PASOK since its founding in Chania (1974) and served as Secretary of the Kissamos party organization from 1977 to 1981. He was a member of the National Council of PASOK and Secretary of the Employment, Social Affairs, and Health Sector. In the municipal elections of 2010, he was elected Mayor of Chania. He is married to Popi Xirouchaki, and they have four children.
