
Panos Sompolos
Panos Sombolos was born in Astakos, Aetolia-Acarnania (Karaiskakis municipal district). He studied journalism and works as a journalist specializing in crime reporting. He has worked for newspapers such as "Acropolis," "Athinaiki," "Macedonia" (Athens offices), and magazines like "Eikones," "Pantheon," "Romantzo," among others. He also worked at the Athens News Agency, covering judicial reporting for eleven years.
For 26 years, he worked at ERT (YENED, ERT2, NET) in television and radio in the news sector and on various programs. He was the creator and presenter of the show "Eyewitness" on MEGA, which had the highest viewership among all the channel's programs.
Currently, he works for the newspaper "Ethnos" and the television station MEGA as the head of crime reporting. He has covered almost all the major events that have shaken the country over the last 33 years, including earthquakes, air tragedies, major fires, murders, terrorist acts, hijackings, and all high-profile cases in the news.
He has also covered significant international events, such as the plane explosion in Malta with many casualties, the attack on a tourist bus in Cairo and Istanbul, the uprising in Albania involving pyramid schemes, the deadly earthquakes deep in Turkey, and many more.
He has been actively involved in trade union activities, having served as a member of the board, vice president, and president of the Journalists' Union of the Athens Daily Newspapers (ESIEA), and was recently elected as a board member of the Panhellenic Federation of Journalists' Unions (POESY). He is currently the president of ESIEA.
He has two children: Anthoula, who is a lawyer, and Giorgos, who is a journalist.
