Anna Avramea

Anna Avramea (1934-2008), after completing her studies in the Department of History and Archaeology at the School of Philosophy in Athens, specialized in Historical Geography in Paris (1960-1963), attending courses at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, the College de France, and the Institut de Geographie. She served as a curator in the History Department at Panteion University and worked for a period at the Center for Byzantine Studies of the National Research Foundation. In 1971, she began her collaboration with the Academy of Athens on the project of the International Union of Academies "Tabula Imperii Romani," and from 1980, she took over the supervision of the entire project. In 2002, she was appointed Professor Emeritus at the University of Crete, where she had taught Byzantine History for eighteen years in the Department of History and Archaeology. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Greece Cultural Foundation (MIET) from 2001 to 2008.
