Martha Nussbaum

Martha Nussbaum was born in New York in 1947. She studied theater and classical studies at New York University (NYU) and pursued graduate studies in philosophy at Harvard. After marrying Alan Nussbaum in the 1970s, she converted to Judaism and baptized their daughter Rachel (who currently teaches History at Evergreen State College). Today, she holds the Ernst Freund Distinguished Service Professor of Law and Ethics chair at the University of Chicago.
