Ersi Sotiropoulou

Ersi Sotiropoulos was born in Patras in 1953 and lives in Athens. She studied philosophy and cultural anthropology in Florence and worked as a cultural advisor at the Greek Embassy in Rome. She has written poems, novellas, and novels. Her book "Zigzag through the Bitter Orange Trees" was awarded the State Prize for Novel in 2000 and the Novel Prize from the magazine "Diavazo." She received the "Mediterranean" Award (Prix Mediterranee Etranger 2017) for her book "What's Left of the Night" (French title "Ce qui reste de la nuit," published by Stock, translated by Gilles Decorvet), a book that follows the young Constantine Cavafy in Paris in 1897 and presents the obstacles the poet encounters on his journey toward personal and poetic maturity. Her works have been translated into French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, and Swedish.
