Antonis Sourounis

Antonis Sourounis (1942-2016) was born in Thessaloniki during the Occupation. After completing his secondary education, he left for Germany in 1960, where all his relatives had already emigrated. He began studying sociology and political sciences at the Universities of Cologne, Saarbrücken, and Innsbruck in Austria, but he interrupted his studies to travel and work. He held various jobs, ranging from bank clerk to sailor and from hotel boy to professional roulette player. He made his literary debut in 1977 with his novel "The Teammates," published in Thessaloniki (Nea Egnatia, second edition Kastaniotis, Athens 1988; 2008).
