Ageliki E. Laiou

Angeliki Laiou was born in 1941. She studied at the School of Philosophy of the University of Athens and then continued her studies in the United States. In 1966, she earned her doctorate from Harvard University. She served as a professor at Rutgers University, Princeton University, the Sorbonne, the Collège de France, as well as a professor of history at Harvard University and director of the Dumbarton Oaks Center for Byzantine Studies at the same university. She was a member of the Medieval Academy of America, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Academia Europaea, a corresponding member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, and a regular member of the Academy of Athens. Her publications include articles and books on Byzantine history, such as "Agrarian Society in the Late Byzantine Era," MIET, 1987, "Gender, Society and Economic Life in Byzantium," London, 1992, "Le marriage, l'amour et la parente a Byzance: XI - XIIeme siecles," Collège de France. Regarding the Occupation period, she published articles like "The Polities of Hunger: Economic Aid to Greece 1943-45," Journal of the Hellenic Diaspora, 1980, and "The Resistance in Evros," Journal of the Hellenic Diaspora, 1984.
