Dean Karnazes has been recognized by TIME magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. His achievements as an internationally acclaimed endurance athlete include participating in races on all seven continents, completing the 217-kilometer ultramarathon in Death Valley under temperatures reaching 50 degrees Celsius, and finishing a marathon at the South Pole in temperatures of minus 40 degrees Celsius. In 2006, he ran fifty marathons in fifty U.S. states over fifty consecutive days. His books have appeared on the New York Times bestseller lists, with "Ultramarathon Man" being the seventh best-selling sports book worldwide in 2005, and it has been translated into dozens of languages. Karnazes lives with his wife and children in California.
