Violetta CHionidou

Violetta Hionidou is an Associate Professor of Modern History at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. She has taught at Southampton, Crete, and the Ionian University and has published extensively on the demographic and social history of modern Greece. Her research interests focus on 19th and 20th century Greece, although she has recently expanded into the 18th century. She has published books and articles on historical demography, household structure, migration, and the famine in occupied Greece. Her book "Famine and Death in Occupied Greece, 1941-1944" was published by Cambridge University Press and was awarded the Edmund Keely Prize. A Greek translation was released in 2011 by Estia Publishers.
