Ottaviano Bon

Ottaviano Bon
Ottaviano Bon, a descendant of a prominent Venetian family, was born in 1551. He studied at the University of Padua under the renowned philosopher Francesco Piccolomini and pursued a successful career in provincial administration, where his diligence and integrity were duly appreciated. His reputation and acquaintance with the leaders of the Venetian government led to his selection as a special envoy to the Court of Spain, where he was to negotiate an important and complex treaty, particularly concerning the economic terms of trade. His mission to Istanbul as a bailo, representing the Venetian authorities and Venetians residing in the city, was equally challenging and even more crucial for Venice's trade. His tenure was considered successful, and his diplomatic skills were utilized again upon his return to his homeland. He passed away on December 18, 1622, two days after undergoing surgery to remove a gallstone.
