Konstantinos Metaxas
Metaxas Konstantinos (1792-1870). A fighter in the Greek War of Independence and a politician from Kefalonia. He led a group of Kefalonians in the Battle of Lalas (Epirus), was appointed Minister of Justice, organized the Aegean Islands, and was promoted to general. In 1823, as the general governor of Western Greece, he went to Messolonghi, where he reconciled various leaders and worked actively for the city's defense. When Ibrahim invaded the Peloponnese, he took charge of defending Palamidi; later, he became the chief of staff for General Church. During Kapodistrias' governance, he was appointed extraordinary commissioner of the Kefalonians and participated as a representative of the Peloponnese in the Fourth National Assembly; subsequently, he served as extraordinary commissioner of Eastern Greece, where he suppressed insurgent movements. In 1861, he was appointed a member of the Senate, and after its abolition, he returned to Kefalonia, where he lived in private. "The Historical Memoirs from the Greek Revolution" is his only written work.
