Kostas Lapavitsas

Kostas Lapavitsas is a professor of economics at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. He specializes in financial issues and the Japanese economy and has published numerous academic articles in English, Japanese, and Greek. He has taught at universities in Japan, Turkey, and elsewhere, and also contributes to Greek and international media. In recent years, his academic research has focused on the Eurozone crisis, and his works have significantly influenced European public discourse. His long-term research centers on the financialization of capitalism, its various forms, and its social impacts. In January 2015, he was elected as a Member of Parliament for Imathia in collaboration with SYRIZA, a position he held until August 2015. Since 2016, he has been a member of the European Research Network on Social and Economic Policy (EReNSEP).
