
Eleni G. Saranti
He has taught classical and Byzantine history, culture, and literature at the Universities of Montreal, Trent, Queen's, and Guelph in Canada, in the Department of Philology at the University of Patras, and in the Department of History and Archaeology at the University of the Peloponnese. Monographs: "Le motariat byzantin du IXe au XVe siecles" (University of Athens, 1991); "Il sistema notarile bizantino (VI-XV secolo)" (Milan 1999); "The Byzantine City in the Sixth Century: Literary Images and Historical Reality" (Athens 2006). Other publications cover topics related to Byzantine cities, Byzantine society and institutions, legal documents, rhetoric and hagiography, and classical monuments in Byzantium. Administrative positions: President of the Canadian Institute of Balkan Studies in Toronto, member of the Governing Board of the Canadian Mediterranean Institute and the Hellenic Open University, Deputy President of the Institute for Research on Byzantine Civilization at the University of the Peloponnese.
