Giorgos A. Georgiou

George Georgiou was born in Psachna, Evia, in 1963. He graduated with honors from the Department of Public Administration at Panteion University and pursued postgraduate studies at the Institute of Regional Development of the same university. With a scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), he completed a three-year postgraduate program in the United Kingdom and earned a Ph.D. in European Policies and Economic Planning from Strathclyde University. He worked as a Research Assistant at the Centre of Planning and Economic Research (KEPE), conducting a study on investment development incentives. During the negotiation of the First Community Support Framework (1989-93), he served as a trainee in the Directorate-General for Regional Policy of the European Commission. In 1995, he was hired by the Ministry of Finance as a Special Scientist and served in the Directorates of the General Accounting Office of the State, focusing on European fiscal issues and the budget. During the same period, he chaired the first Working Group established at the Ministry of Finance to address the transition of the fiscal sector to the euro. Since 1998, he has been serving as a Counselor at the Permanent Greek Representation to the European Union, representing Greece in the Budget Committee of the European Council. He has published articles in Greek and international journals and participated with presentations at conferences in Greece and abroad.
