Gary Armstrong

Gary Armstrong holds the title of Crist W. Blackwell Distinguished Professor of Undergraduate Education at the Kenan-Flagler Business School of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies in Business Administration at Wayne State University in Detroit and earned his Ph.D. in Marketing from Northwestern University. Dr. Armstrong has contributed to numerous articles in major financial newspapers. As a consultant and researcher, he has collaborated with many companies in the fields of Marketing Research, Sales Management, and Marketing Strategy. However, Professor Armstrong's first love has always been teaching. His position as Blackwell Distinguished Professor is the only permanent salaried position for distinguished undergraduate teaching at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is very active in teaching and directing the undergraduate program at the Kenan-Flagler School. His leadership roles include titles such as Chair of Marketing, Associate Director of the Undergraduate Business Program, Director of the Business Honors Program, among many others. He works closely with student groups in Business Administration and has received various university and teaching awards at the Business School. He is the only person to have repeatedly received the highly esteemed Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, which he has won three times. Professor Armstrong recently received the UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching, the highest teaching honor awarded by the sixteen-campus University of North Carolina system.
