Wilhelm Hauff

Wilhelm Hauff lived only twenty-five years (1802-1827), yet he managed to leave behind a significant literary legacy. He was an editor of the "Morgenblatt für gebildete Stände" ("Morning Paper for Educated Classes") and wrote both poetry and prose. Some of his few songs are still sung today. With "Lichtenstein," he introduced the historical novel to Germany. His fairy tales continue to be cherished and are read by both young and old with the same interest as when they were first written.
