Polyxeni Moira - Mylonopoulou

Polyxeni G. Moira was born in Athens. She is a Professor in the Department of Tourism Management at the University of West Attica, specializing in "Sociology of Tourism." She holds a PhD from the Department of Sociology at Panteion University. She has a master's degree in Urban and Regional Development and is a graduate of the Department of Public Administration, the Department of International and European Studies, and the Department of Communication, Media, and Culture. Additionally, she has a one-year postgraduate specialization in Administrative Law as well as in teaching and evaluation. Throughout her studies, she was a scholarship recipient from the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) due to her excellent academic performance. She served for 18 years at the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), particularly in the Property and Exploitation Directorate of GNTO (responsible for managing GNTO-owned tourist facilities such as hotels, refreshment areas, casinos, tourist pavilions, beaches, tourist complexes, golf courses, recreation centers, etc.), in the Hotels Directorate (responsible for licensing hotel units and ensuring their legal operation), in the Marine Tourism Department, and in a special inter-ministerial team for organizing international conferences. She also served as the coordinator of the Quality of Life sector of the Public Administration Inspectors-Controllers Body. She has twenty years of teaching experience in the scientific field of tourism management and sociology in higher education, both at universities (Panteion University, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, University of Ioannina, University of the Aegean, Harokopio University, Hellenic Open University) and technological institutions (Technological Educational Institute of Athens, Epirus, and Piraeus). She has also taught at the National School of Public Administration and Local Government / Department of Tourism Economy and Development, at the Institute of Training, and at the School of Tourist Guides. She is a reviewer for Greek and international scientific journals. She is the author of books and scientific articles in the fields of tourism sociology, tourism geography, and alternative forms of tourism. Her presentations have been featured at international tourism scientific conferences in Europe, the USA, Canada, South America, and Asia.
