Dimitris N. Alexandrou
Dimitris Alexandrou, founder of the Cultural Society of Panhellenes "MAKEDNOS," was born in Vavdos, Halkidiki, but grew up in Thessaloniki. He served as a Volunteer Cadet in the Greek Army from 1962-64 and then went to England for his studies.
He worked in the North Sea Oil industry and later ventured into commerce, notably naming his first company in London in 1965, Macedonia Export-Import. This experience made him aware early on of the extent of historical falsification on one hand and the indifference of local authorities on the other.
For 25 years, he traveled to all corners of the world, like a modern-day Odysseus, driven by an unquenchable longing for home, a passion for his homeland, and love for expatriates, which ultimately led him to his own Ithaca, the "Forgotten Greeks" of the world.
A pivotal moment in his life was the incredible adventure he experienced in the foothills of the Himalayas, searching for the forgotten tribe of the Kalash, an event that made him widely known in Greece and abroad.
Upon his return, he founded the now internationally recognized Cultural Society of Panhellenes "MAKEDNOS," embarking on new missions to places where forgotten Greeks exist.
The Municipality of Thessaloniki, recognizing his significant contributions to Hellenism, awarded him the Medal of the City of Thessaloniki, and he has been repeatedly honored by numerous organizations and associations in Greece and abroad.
