Salman Rushdie

Salman Rushdie was born in Bombay in 1947, lived in England from 1961, and currently resides in America. His books have received numerous prestigious awards, most notably the Booker of Bookers, awarded to the novel "Midnight's Children." In 2007, he was knighted by the Queen of England for his contributions to literature. His works consistently provoke a storm of criticism and diverse opinions and are discussed by millions of readers worldwide. His novel "The Satanic Verses" led to a fatwa being issued against him by Ayatollah Khomeini—an ordeal that inspired the writing of his autobiographical work "Joseph Anton: A Memoir." His mature novel "The Moor's Last Sigh" won the Whitbread Prize in 1995 and the European Union's Aristeion Prize for Literature in 1996. "The Ground Beneath Her Feet," which was simultaneously released in all countries where it was sold, including Greece, became the publishing event of 1999 and resonated not only with book lovers but also with rock and roll enthusiasts.
