Dimitrios Karamperopoulos

Dimitrios Ap. Karaberopoulos was born in Velestino in 1945, where he spent his childhood and youth. He studied at the Medical School of the University of Athens and has been a practicing pediatrician since 1980 in Kifisia, where he resides. He is married to Vasiliki Kostarelou, a pharmacist from Markopoulo Mesogaia, and they have four children. Since 1990, he has been involved in the History of Medicine during the era of the Modern Greek Enlightenment, publishing several original studies, including "Medical Knowledge of Rigas in his Book 'Anthology of Physics'" (1990), "Anatomy and Physiology Knowledge of the Thessalian Teacher of the Nation Anthimos Gazis" (1993), "The First History of Medicine in the Greek Language" (1994), "An Uncatalogued Text from 1815 on Protection from the Plague" (1994), "The Physician Manolis Saris Tenedios and his Enlightenment Work" (1999), "European Medical Knowledge in the Greek Territory (1745-1821)" (2003). He was awarded a Ph.D. with honors in the History of Medicine from the University of Athens in 1996, with a comprehensive study on Greek medical books of the pre-revolutionary era. He also studies ancient physicians Hippocrates and Galen, publishing works such as "The Child in the Hippocratic Collection," "The Vesicoureteral Contribution: First Mention by Galen," "Galen's Drug Efficacy Testing," "Herbal Medicine in Ancient Greek Physicians." He founded the Hellenic Society for the History of Pediatrics, serving as its first president. He established the Velestino Association of Athens (1981), where he presided and published the association's newspaper "Voice of Velestino" until 1997. He was the inspiration and co-founder of the original "Museum of Agricultural Tools and Traditional Technology of Velestino" (1992). He founded the Scientific Society for the Study of Ferai-Velestino-Rigas (1987), serving as president and organizing four International Conferences on Rigas Velestinlis and his birthplace (1986, 1992, 1997, 2003), while also publishing their proceedings under the title "Yperia." Additionally, he oversees the publication of the works of the national awakener Rigas Velestinlis, compiling their respective indexes: "Anthology of Physics" (1991), "Unpublished Documents about Rigas Velestinlis" by Aim. Legrand (1996) and K. Amantos (1997), "Thourios, Traditional Musical Variations" (1997), "The Moral Tripod" (2001), "Olympic Games" (2003), "New Anacharsis" (2004), "The Revolutionary" (1994), which includes the Rights of Man, the Constitution, and Thourios. To promote Rigas's pioneering political thought, he ensures that "The Revolutionary" is translated and published in Balkan and European languages. It has already been published in Bulgarian, Romanian, Serbian, Albanian, Russian, Italian, French, and English, with Spanish and German editions in preparation. He compiled the "Index" of Rigas's Chart of Greece and oversaw the first authentic reissue of the Chart of Greece, supported by the Academy of Athens (1998). He has presented the three most significant recent studies on Rigas: a) A model for his book "Anthology of Physics" is the French Encyclopedia by Diderot and d'Alembert (1994). b) The geographical maps Rigas used for drawing the "Chart of Greece" were those of the Frenchman Gullielmo Delisle and the Italian Rizzi Zannoni (1998). Rigas is the translator of Metastasio's "Olympiad" (2001). He also published the study "The Name and Origin of Rigas Velestinlis" (1997, 2nd edition 2000), which restored the true name of the national awakener "Rigas Velestinlis." Additionally, corrections were made to the History textbooks for the 6th Grade of Primary School and the 1st and 2nd Grades of High School, which incorrectly listed "Antonios Kyriazis" as the real name. The local origin of Rigas from Velestino was also documented. He participated in almost all conferences and symposiums in Greece and abroad organized for Rigas Velestinlis on the anniversary of his martyrdom, and he frequently gives lectures on the personality and revolutionary plan of the national awakener Rigas Velestinlis.
