Andreas Gerolymatos

Dr. Andre Gerolymatos (1951-2019) served as the Director of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Centre for Hellenic Studies and was a Professor of History. He also held the Hellenic Studies Chair at Simon Fraser University. Additionally, he was a visiting professor in the Department of History at Nankai University in China and was a member of the Canadian Advisory Council on National Security. Among his works are the books "Castles Made of Sand: A Century of Anglo-American Espionage and Intervention in the Middle East" (St. Martin’s Press, 2010), which was translated into Arabic with three additional chapters (All Prints Publishers, 2012), "Red Acropolis, Black Terror: The Greek Civil War and the Origins of Soviet-American Rivalry, 1943-1949" (Kohlias, 2005), "Espionage in Classical Greece" (Kaktos, 2001), and "Guerrilla Warfare and Espionage in Greece, 1940-1944" (Pella Publishing Co., 1992). Dr. Andre Gerolymatos received numerous awards and honors, such as the Gold Cross of the Order of Phoenix from the Hellenic Republic for his contribution to Greek culture (2011), the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of his significant contribution to Canada's national security (2012), and the Simon Fraser University President's Award for his services to the university through public engagement and media relations (2012).
