THanasis CHristou

Thanasis Christou is a Professor of Modern and Contemporary History in the Department of History, Archaeology, and Cultural Heritage Management at the School of Humanities and Cultural Studies (Kalamata) of the University of the Peloponnese. He was born in 1963 in Thespies, Thebes, where he completed his primary education before studying Modern and Contemporary History at the Faculty of Philosophy at the Universities of Thessaloniki, Munich, and Athens. His research and articles focus on the Modern and Contemporary History of the Greek State (from 1830 to the present), particularly the formation of political institutions, the founding of the University of Athens, the dynamics of the student movement, the writing of biographies of significant figures who have marked Greek society, the uncovering of unknown aspects of the history of Occupation and Resistance through German archives, and the development of ideological trends in the broader Greek and European context during the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. His scholarly work comprises a series of books, studies, and articles. Since September 2004, he has been consistently teaching Modern and Contemporary History at the University of the Peloponnese.
