
Giannos Papantoniou
Giannos Papantoniou was born in 1949. He studied economics at the University of Athens and the University of Wisconsin (USA), and history at the Sorbonne University (Paris). He earned his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Cambridge (England). After completing his studies, he taught at the Department of Economics at the University of Athens while also working at the Centre of Planning and Economic Research (KEPE). From 1978 to 1981, he was an official at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris. During the same period, he served as an advisor to the president of PASOK, Andreas Papandreou, and participated in the development of PASOK's Government Program. In 1981, he was elected as a Member of the European Parliament for PASOK. He has served as Deputy Minister of National Economy, Minister of Commerce, and Minister of National Economy and Finance. Since 2001, he has been the Minister of National Defense. He is elected as a Member of Parliament for PASOK in Athens A and is a member of the Central Committee. He has authored books and articles on economic and political issues.
