Efi Kanner

Effie Kanner was born in Athens in 1966. She studied History at the University of Athens and at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris. In 2000, she received her Ph.D. from the Department of History and Archaeology at the University of Athens. She teaches Turkish History at the Department of Turkish and Modern Asian Studies at the University of Athens, having previously taught at the Department of Methodology, History, and Theory of Science and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Education at the same university. Additionally, she teaches history at the Hellenic Open University. Her research interests focus on the formation of social identities among urban populations of the late Ottoman Empire and the Turkish Republic: the national identities of these populations, poverty management, gender identities, the formation of urban subjectivities, and the relations between various ethno-religious groups. She has published articles in Greek and international journals, book reviews, and translations.
