Achilleas Kyriakidis

Achilleas Kyriakidis was born in 1946 in Cairo. He lives and works in Athens. He has published nine books of short stories, short prose, and essays (both cinematic and literary). He has written three screenplays that were made into feature films and has directed seven short films based on his own scripts. Over forty-five of his translations are available, featuring works by authors such as Jorge Luis Borges, Georges Perec, Raymond Queneau, Luis Sepúlveda, Alfred Jarry, Roland Topor, Andrew Crumey, Jean Echenoz, Carlo Frabetti, and others. In 2004, he was awarded the State Prize for Short Story for "Artificial Respiration," in 2006 the State Translation Prize for his translation of the prose "Collected Works" of Jorge Luis Borges (in the definitive edition by "Ellinika Grammata" - the award was presented in 2007), the following year the International Cavafy Translation Prize as part of the Cavafy Awards 2007, and in 2009 the Literary Translation Prize for Francophone Literature by EKEMEL, for translating Patrick Modiano's novel "In the Café of Lost Youth."
