Michail Afanasjevic Bulgakov

Mikhail Bulgakov (1891-1940) is one of Russia's most significant modern playwrights. His work is distinguished by its sharp satire and penetrating humor. Although he studied medicine, he soon dedicated himself to literature. From his early works, the short story collections "Diaboliad" and "The Fatal Eggs" (1925), he expressed his opposition to Soviet reality. Among his most important works are the following: "The White Guard" (1925), "Heart of a Dog" (1925), "Zoyka's Apartment" (1926), "The Run" (1928), "The Crimson Island" (1928), "Molière" (1936), "The Last Days" (theatrical adaptation 1940), "Black Snow" (unfinished), and "The Master and Margarita," which the author began writing in 1928 and continued to revise until his death. Bulgakov's work is closely linked to the renewal of Soviet theater, especially after 1955, and his influence on Soviet literature has been immense. His books have been translated into almost every language in the world.
