Kyriakos Velopoulos

Kyriakos Velopoulos was born on October 24, 1965, in Germany. He hails from a rural family of refugees. After graduating from Dendropotamos High School, he enrolled in a Journalism School, attending classes on a scholarship. He is a reserve officer in the Greek Army and completed his military service on the islands of the Northeastern Aegean and the mainland. He is a member of the Academy of the Greek Language in Germany and the Union of Writers of Northern Greece. As a journalist, he worked at radio stations and the television stations "Thessaloniki" and "Hermes," where he presented the show "The Parliament of Citizens," as well as on "Egnatia" TV with the show "Parliament," and the program "Ellinorama" on TILEASTY, which notably achieved high viewership. Beyond consistently reporting on current events, his favored topics include commentary on national issues and activities to strengthen the bonds of the Greek diaspora with the Motherland. His activities include: - Organizing a gathering of 18,000 Thessaloniki residents at Aristotelous Square to protest against naming Skopje with "MACEDONIA" as a primary or secondary component. - Visiting Greeks in Southern Italy and Sicily (Magna Graecia) during Easter 1996. - Coordinating efforts through the Prefecture of Thessaloniki to host 30 children of Greek descent from Southern Italy at the "Social Welfare" camp in Metamorfosi, Halkidiki. - Personally organizing significant aid for the underprivileged Greek Pontians in Komotini and Sappes, as well as the Greek Sarakatsani in Eastern Rumelia. - Organizing "Pilgrimages" to the archaeological sites of Vergina, Pella, and Lefkadia, as a form of homage to the cradle of Ancient Macedonians. He also delivered lectures in schools and associations on the history of Macedonia and the struggles of its heroes against any threat. He authored historical works such as "Macedonia and Insults," "These are the Turks," "Alexander, the Greatest of the Greeks," "Greece Bleeds," "Aristotle: Athenian Constitution," "Globalization," "Death of the Nation," "Secrets of the Greeks," "On Greek Education," "Prehistory of the Greeks," and "The Carnivores of Democracy." He is a co-founder of the Hellenocentric association "Diavlos Ellinon." His first involvement in politics was in the 2004 national elections when he participated on the LAOS party ticket, receiving 5,700 votes out of a total of 7,200! In the 2006 prefectural elections, he was a candidate for Prefect of Pella, receiving 7,903 votes and a percentage of 7.3%, while in 2007, he was elected as a Member of Parliament for Thessaloniki B with 6,130 votes out of a total of 11,200.
