CHristos V. Gortsos

Christos Gortsos is an Assistant Professor (and has been elected as an Associate Professor) of International Economic Law at the Department of International and European Studies at Panteion University of Athens. He teaches international and European monetary and financial law, as well as economic analysis of law. He studied law, economics, and finance at the Universities of Athens and Zurich, the Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania, and the Graduate Institute of International Studies at the University of Geneva, where he earned his doctorate in international banking supervision (1996). From 1996 to 1998, he served as a research associate at the International Center for Monetary and Banking Studies at the University of Geneva. Christos Gortsos has an extensive bibliography and has written numerous articles on international and European monetary and financial law, including the following monographs: - International and Regulation of International Banks (doctoral dissertation, 1996). - The Greek Banking System (second edition, 1998). - La non-adhesion à l'Union Européenne et le secteur financier suisse: différences de réglementation et ses conséquences économiques (Swiss National Fund, in collaboration with Professor Hans Genberg, 1999). - International, European Community, and Greek Banking and Monetary Law (1999). - The Greek Deposit Guarantee System (second edition, 2000). - European Monetary Law (2004). - International Economic Law (in collaboration with Professor Konstantinos A. Stefanou, 2006). - European Banking Law - General Part (forthcoming). Since 2005, he has been a member of the Monetary Committee of the International Law Association (MoComILA) and since 2007, a member of the Financial Services Expert Group of the European Parliament. Beyond his academic activities, Christos Gortsos, an attorney in Athens, served for a decade (1991-2000) as a special legal advisor on International and European Law and as the coordinator of the Euro Management Committee of the Hellenic Bank Association. In July 2000, he was elected as its Secretary General. In this capacity, he also serves as: - Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Deposit Guarantee Fund. - Member of the Board of Directors of the Capital Market Commission, and - Member of the Board of Directors of the DIAS Interbank Payment Systems Company.
