Dimosthenis L. CHevas

Demosthenes L. Hevas is an Associate Professor of Financial Accounting in the Department of Accounting and Finance at the Athens University of Economics and Business. He graduated from the Department of Business Administration of the Higher Industrial School of Thessaloniki in 1981. In 1982, he obtained a Master of Science degree from the University of Wales (Institute of Science and Technology - Department of Business Administration and Accountancy). His thesis was titled "Uniformity in Accounting in Greece: The General Accounting Plan of Greece." In 1985, he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the same university. His doctoral dissertation was titled "The Stock Market in Greece, an Empirical Study: 1968-1982." He served as the Chair of the Department of Accounting and Finance from its establishment as an independent department in 2002 until 2007. He has been a member of the Research Committee of the Athens University of Economics and Business since 2002. He was a member of the Review Committee of the International Accounting Standards Committee Foundation for the translation of International Accounting Standards into Greek. He served as the Elected National Representative of Greece on the Executive Committee of the European Accounting Association from 2002 to 2008. He also served as the Country Director for Greece of the International Relations Committee of the International Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Financial and Accounting Scientists since May 2005. He has participated as a member in numerous committees in both the public and private sectors. His research interests focus on Financial Accounting, Public Sector Accounting, and Taxation. His research papers have been published in journals such as the International Journal of Accounting, European Accounting Review, Applied Financial Economics, and Journal of Management and Governance. He is the author of several books on accounting topics. He has served as an ad hoc reviewer for scientific journals including the International Journal of Accounting, Accounting, Auditing and Performance Evaluation, North Eastern Europe Journal of Economics, Investment Research and Analysis Journal, and Spoudai.
