Dimitris A. Sotiropoulos

Dimitris A. Sotiropoulos is an associate professor of political science at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He was born in 1960 in Athens and studied law, sociology, and political science at the University of Athens, the London School of Economics and Political Science, and Yale University, where he completed his doctoral dissertation in 1991. He has taught sociology and political science at the graduate institution Instituto Juan March de Estudios e Investigaciones in Madrid and the Department of Sociology at the University of Crete. Since 1998, he has been teaching political science at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Athens. He has published articles on the modern Greek state, the relationship between administration and politics, civil society, and the welfare state in journals such as the British Journal of Sociology, Civil Society, and Contemporary Issues, as well as in the newspapers Avgi and Vima of Sunday. Among his published books are "Bureaucracy and Political Power" (Ant. Sakkoulas, 1996), "Populism and Bureaucracy" (The University of Notre Dame Press, 1996), and he has edited collective volumes such as "Society and Politics" (Themelio, 1996, with Ch. Lyrintzis and Ilias Nikolakopoulos), "The Ombudsman: Democracy in Depth" (Papazisis, 2000), among others.
